Asking for Donations with Ease is a 4-part series that will help you overcome your fear of asking and gain so much confidence that asking will become second nature.
In part three of this series, I explained why using a system for asking is so effective. In this post, you’ll discover how you can apply this new Power Asking system to your own ability to ask for gifts and watch your confidence (and results) soar!
Following the “Rules of the Road”
Just like you wouldn’t want to drive a car without learning the rules of the road, it’s daunting to think about asking for donations without a system in place to keep you centered.
Of course, not everyone follows the rules of the road perfectly. Every day, we all encounter drivers who:
- run red lights
- fail to yield when merging
- ignore the speed limit
- make illegal u-turns
- turn without signaling
But the vast majority of people DO follow the rules of the road.
And so, the system WORKS. We can get behind the wheel and safely get from point A to point B. There’s no fear — we just do it.
The same is true with asking for major gifts.
When prospects are asked for a gift, they generally respond in predictable ways — provided you’re following the right set of rules. It’s when you deviate from those rules that donors can act in ways that might spoil the relationship.
That’s why I created the Power Asking system — when you have a reliable set of rules for asking, you can do it confidently each and every time.
Anyone Can Learn the Power Asking System
All the greatest fundraisers have learned the system I codified in Power Asking. In truth, anyone can learn it. The problem was that the “asking system” had never been simplified, organized, and written down in such an easy-to-follow manner… until now!
And the system really is simple — anyone can do it. The hard part is following through.
In order to succeed, you need to stick with the system and practice. Take every opportunity to ask and I promise, you will hone your skill.
As you do, I’m certain you’ll raise more money.
Power Asking — a closer look:
The Power Asking system is taught over the course of three 90-minute sessions which are divided into ten modules. Combined, these make up a course worth 5 CFRE credits.
Best of all, the sessions are recorded so you can refer back to them whenever you need a refresher. Plus, all materials are yours to keep… sample ask scripts, templates for making donor calls and even an ask meeting agenda.
Here’s a taste of what you’ll learn in the system…
- Determining the ask amount
Figuring out how much to ask for is one of the hardest parts of the ask. Here, you’ll learn a formula to determine the RIGHT ask amount every time you ask. - Getting a meeting
Scheduling meetings can be tough! In Power Asking, you’ll discover the tricks of the trade to get more meetings with your prospective donors than ever before. - Understanding the Arc of the Ask
There’s a rhythm and a method to an ask meeting. Learn the specific steps to the “arc of the ask” to ensure your ask meeting goes smoothly and seamlessly. - Learning to ask for blended gifts
If you’re only asking for cash, you’re leaving a huge amount of money on the table. Your donors won’t know to consider their assets when determining whether they can make a gift. It’s up to you to explain it to them!

I’ve taught hundreds of people just like you to ask with ease and confidence. And now I’ve taken that knowledge and channeled it into a simple, repeatable system that any fundraiser can learn.
So I absolutely know you can do this!
It’s not easy at first. Just like when you first learned to drive a car… it takes patience and practice. But it does become easier and OH-SO rewarding!
A board member and I met with a donor, made the ask, and he said YES! I know not every ask is that easy, but WOW… what a confidence booster! THANK YOU for making this feel doable for those of us without major gifts staff/departments.
